The domestic cat (Felis catus) has evolved from a solitary, utilitarian pest controller to a deeply integrated companion animal in modern human households. Despite their ubiquity, feline communication is frequently misunderstood, leading to fractured human-animal bonds and suboptimal welfare for the cat. This paper explores the multidimensional nature of feline communication—encompassing vocalizations, body language, and olfactory signaling. By synthesizing current ethological research with practical applications for the dedicated cat owner, we propose that a deeper, scientifically grounded understanding of these communicative modalities significantly enhances feline welfare and elevates the psychological benefits for their human caregivers.
