Abstract The concept of statistical efficacy is applied to measures of association appropriate for contingency tables in which both classifications are ordinal. Measures considered are those based on pairs (such as Kendall's tau and Somers's D), those interpretable as product-moment correlations, Spearman's rho, and those related to Cohen's kappa. Formulas are given, and techniques for estimating efficacies from data are discussed.
