Russian-Chinese relations in the field of artistic education during the 1990s to 2020s are characterized by a stage of dynamic growth: every year, more and more applicants from China choose Russian higher education institutions. This trend is determined by the strong inter-ethnic ties that have developed between the two countries over the past decades, as well as the desire of contemporary Chinese artists to explore the Russian school of realistic painting. Studying painting in Russia inspires Chinese artists to explore new techniques and imagery in their work. The object of this research is contemporary Chinese painting. The subject of this research is the creative journey of those Chinese painters who pursued higher artistic education programs in Russia during the 1990s to 2020s. The methods used in this research include historical analysis and cultural analysis methods. A special contribution of the author to the study of the topic is the consideration of the specific impact that studying abroad has on Chinese art education in the context of the 1990s to 2020s. Thus, while in the 20th century Western and Soviet educational models fundamentally transformed the principles of art education in China, today the education of Chinese artists in Russia merely expands their opportunities without overshadowing or replacing their knowledge of traditional national art. Through mastering Russian higher education programs, Chinese creators develop the skills necessary to create realistic paintings depicting elements of both Chinese and Russian cultures. The artistic traditions of these two countries harmoniously blend in their works, enriching Chinese art and giving it new dimensions.
