Abstract As the construction industry struggles to achieve meaningful productivity growth and meet the enormous demand for infrastructure construction and maintenance, modular and automated serial construction and quality control offer a pathway to increase output volumes and raise quality standards through scalable processes. Addressing these potentials, the project presented in this report explores a modular precast segmental construction system with reinforcement and post‐tensioning tendons of CFRP and combines it with non‐destructive quality control by computed tomography (CT) embedded in the flow production. Investigations determine potentials and limitations of industrial CT for quality control of precast concrete components and explore their application to modular concrete bridges. Based on the developed modular system, a particular focus is placed on the characterization of contact areas and their load‐bearing characteristics. As large‐scale bridge modules exceed the geometric limits of most industrial CT scanners, a robot‐based CT scanning approach is developed and investigated. The realization of an 8.10 m long modular test bridge finally demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed concept and serves for the experimental determination of the structure's load‐bearing behavior.
