This mixed-method study assessed a state university's research culture, focusing on environment (reputation, income, productivity) and quality (citations, impact, strength, excellence, influence). It included 318 survey respondents and 12 interviewees, using validated tools. Quantitative analysis involved descriptive stats, while qualitative analysis followed Lichtman’s 3Cs method. Trustworthiness was maintained through credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. Results showed a strong research environment and quality, driven by vision, leadership, and support. Qualitative findings highlighted dedication to excellence, reputation, and guidance, but noted that areas such as income generation, industry partnerships, and the alignment and strengthening of institutional practices relating to research productivity and quality offer opportunities for improvement. Overall, a strong research culture depends on institutional support and researcher commitment, with strategic and external collaborations crucial to ongoing research quality, the broader scholarly culture, and sustained global impact.
