The infra-red absorption spectra from 2 to 15μ are given for n-butane, isobutane, n-pentane, isopentane, and neopentane. Vibrational assignments for these molecules and for propane are deduced. The band positions correlatable with particular types of vibration of various hydrocarbon groupings are discussed.
