Abstract As a sign of change of the twenty-first century, globalization of economy and information is leading to the globalization of culture and civilization. As it has always been known as the Book of Changes , Yijing certainly can accommodate the requirements of globalization. As a byproduct of globalization, community and citizenship are carriers of culture and civilization. As the Yijing is becoming a worldwide classic, it can help enhance the quality of community and citizenship. The idea of complementarity between yin and yang conceived in the Yijing can help us adjust our attitude toward life, science-technology, and inter-relationship within our community. The idea of unity of heaven and humanity and that of great harmony conceived in the Yijing provide an optimal state of the cosmic transformations, by which citizens in a community can be inspired and know how to create and live in a harmonious society. Although the Yijing came out of the ancient agricultural and patriarchal clan system, the cosmology and ontology conceived in it is time-tested and can traverse time and space, and thus it can help us analyze contemporary social problems and offer certain possible countermeasures.
