Assessment of the impact of proposed works on the Listed Building and surrounding Heritage Assets. Recording of the building to Historic England Level 3. The proposals seek to return the building to its original residential use, whilst retaining a small commercial premises on the ground floor. The proposals affect little of the historic fabric with only small sections of original walls being lost during the conversion. Some doorways blocked in the modern period are to be reinstated, restoring an earlier form to parts of the building. Whilst large rooms will be subdivided, the original layout of the building will still be discernible in plan form. There are no proposed alterations to the exterior of the building. so the proposals will have no impact on the Foregate and The Tything Conservation Area and no impact on the setting of the surrounding historic buildings - the building will appear the same both to the front and to the rear. The proposals will bring the building back into viable use and will thus protect the building from the decay which can occur if a building is unused. The proposed works to 42 Foregate Street will have little impact on the Grade II Listed Building and little to no impact on surrounding heritage assets.
