Oteley Road West, Shrewsbury: Archaeological Evaluation by Geophysical Survey and Trial Trenching Report

An archaeological Evaluation by geophysical survey and trial trenching at land east of the A5112 and north of the A5, Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The trenching targeted some of the results of possible linear features and other responses recorded during the geophysical survey. However, these comprised mainly of natural geological variations, likely relating to riverine deposits of sands, silts, and gravels. Excavation of Trench 1, Trench 2, Trench 3, Trench 5, and Trench 10 observed no archaeological features, with only geological features present. In only four of the ten trenches, were archaeological features encountered and to which provide no datable evidence. These features consisted of a possible pit, a ditch, a pit and a ditch terminus. These features are likely of agricultural activity. In four of the 10 trenches, archaeological features were encountered but there was no datable evidence.
