This interview is a part of the “Punjabi in BC” oral history project (2019-2023). “Punjabi in BC” is comprised of interviews with over 50 K-12 teachers, language advocates, journalists, and writers who have contributed to the life of the Punjabi language in British Columbia, Canada. Dilpreet Kaur Ghtaura, the subject of this interview, is an educator and was born and raised in Richmond, BC. Although her background is primarily in the sciences, Dilpreet believes that her proficiency in Punjabi helped her secure a teaching position during the 2008 recession. In the full interview, Dilpreet Kaur Ghtaura reflects on the journey of learning Punjabi, her initial struggles in the classroom, the efforts of her teacher in supporting this journey, and the inspiration to support her own students.
