Standard W/B methodology as outlined in relevant CIfA Standard and Guidance document. Avon Archaeology Limited undertook programme of Archaeological Monitoring (Watching Brief) at Back Lane, Winchcombe, during the installation of new EV charging points in the existing car park. The site was located with the Scheduled Monument of Winchcombe Abbey. The trenching was excavated through 0.50m of tarmac and made ground, and into the underlying deposits, part of which may represent the infilling of medieval fishponds. In one area to the north-east of the site, a small area of limestone fragments was uncovered, which may be related to either modern or earlier walling, but was recorded and left in situ. No other archaeological features or finds were observed. In the light of these findings it was therefore our view that no further archaeological mitigation would be required for this project.
