In this article the author argues that the traditional research paradigm used in industrial‐organizational psychology is not useful in understanding the deeper dynamics of organizations, especially those phenomena that we label as “cultural.” The use of data obtained during clinical and consulting work should be legitimated as valid research data. The clinical model is spelled out and illustrated in the study of organizational culture.
