The article is devoted to the study of agritourism as a promising direction for sustainable development of rural areas of the Kyrgyz Republic. Its economic essence is analyzed, key forms of implementation and their impact on income diversification, strengthening the financial stability of farms and preserving cultural heritage are identified. The socio-ecological significance of agritourism activities is revealed. Based on a comparative analysis of foreign experience (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Poland, the USA, etc.), proposals for the institutional and strategic development of agritourism in Kyrgyzstan are formulated. In conclusion, practical recommendations are presented for overcoming barriers and activating this sector in a market economy.
