The Future of Taiwan's Independence in the Context of U.S.-China Relations

The relevance of this article is due to the unresolved Taiwan problem in the relations between China and the United States. The analysis of this problem allowed the author of the article to identify the following. Because of Taiwan's strategic importance, is a cause of disagreement between the United States and China, and this negatively influences the security of the Asia-Pacific region. Taipei, with the Washington’s support, claims to be an independent State; Beijing considers the island an integral part of the PRC. After the election of a new president of Taiwan in 2024, won by supporters of the island's independence and the strengthening of ties with the United States, China increased pressure on Taiwan. Therefore, the future of the island largely depends on how relations between the United States and China develop on this issue.
