The article examines the importance of fostering a value-based attitude towards the Motherland in primary school-age children through literary reading. Literary reading lessons have great educational potential for the formation of younger schoolchildren's feelings of love for their homeland, pride in its history and culture, and respect for traditions. The analysis of the regulatory framework on the problems of patriotic education of younger schoolchildren is presented. Diagnostic tools are defined to identify the level of formation of a value attitude towards the Motherland, and the results of a ascertaining experiment are described.
