Resumen

Introduction and Objective: Enhancing HRQOL is a central goal of T1D care. International studies have shown benefits of healthcare professionals addressing HRQOL in routine T1D care. This approach has not been studied in the US healthcare system. Methods: We piloted a remote, 2-session, diabetes educator-delivered HRQOL intervention with n=120 people with T1D and their families in 3 care settings: pediatric T1D clinic, adult T1D clinic, and adult primary care. The intervention, based on individual assessment, addressed personal HRQOL strengths and challenges and taught skills, such as goal setting or square breathing, to enhance HRQOL. Using thematic analysis of qualitative feedback (n=63), we explored themes regarding intervention acceptability across participant types and ages. Results: Figure 1 illustrates 6 themes and patterns across groups. While youth and parents were largely satisfied with the intervention, adults and partners had mixed feedback, wanted greater personalization of topics and skill level, and were less interested in partner participation. Conclusion: Appreciation of the strengths-based approach and supportive interactions with interventionists highlight the importance of encouraging positive self-reflection and fostering a validating connection in behavioral T1D care.
