Emergency surgical aortic valve replacement with mechanical circulatory support, guided by a multidisciplinary heart team, resulted in successful recovery for a patient in cardiogenic shock.
Case Report (n=1)
A multidisciplinary heart team approach can successfully guide the management of critical aortic stenosis presenting with cardiogenic shock.
A 65-year-old male was admitted for cardiogenic shock (ejection fraction: 15%) with severe aortic stenosis and regurgitation. He underwent emergency angiography and mechanical circulatory support. A multidisciplinary heart team discussed treatment options. Ultimately, he underwent successful emergency surgical aortic valve replacement with recovery on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. (Level of Difficulty: Intermediate.)
Haneke et al. (Thu,) conducted a case report in Cardiogenic shock with severe aortic stenosis and regurgitation (n=1). Emergency surgical aortic valve replacement and mechanical circulatory support was evaluated on Recovery. Emergency surgical aortic valve replacement with mechanical circulatory support, guided by a multidisciplinary heart team, resulted in successful recovery for a patient in cardiogenic shock.
