Abstract In order to explore water saving in cooling towers, a coupling of thermosiphon technology with cooling tower water-saving was proposed, and a thermosiphon heat dissipation system was constructed. The influence of cooling water temperature, cooling water flow rate, and ambient temperature on the thermosiphon heat dissipation system was investigated, and the water-saving energy consumption and water-saving rate of the heat dissipation system were evaluated. The results show that the greater the difference between the temperature of the cooling water entering the heat dissipation system and the ambient temperature is, the greater the heat transfer of the heat dissipation system will be. The larger the flow rate of the cooling water is, the greater the heat transfer of the heat dissipation system is, but the lower the heat transfer per unit flow rate will be. The water-saving energy consumption and benefits of the coupled system were evaluated through EER and water-saving rate, with EER reaching 5-20 and a water-saving rate of 10%-35%, showing a very significant water-saving effect.
