One of the fundamental categories in language and text is the functional-semantic category of emotivity, through which a linguistic personality conveys not only their own emotional state, but also their attitude to the world, including in the form of various evaluations. The aim of the research is to substantiate the linguocultural conditionality of the emotive code in a literary text. The scientific originality of the research lies in the fact that the emotivity of a literary text is considered not only as a result of the explication of an individual authorial worldview, but also as a consequence of the author’s belonging to a specific linguoculture. As a result, it was established that the emotive code in a literary text is formed on the basis of the transformation of the verbal code into the code of art, while the emotive code is one of the most important components of the cultural code. In A. P. Chekhov’s novella “The Black Monk”, the emotive code is realized with the help of lexical units and lexical combinations naming emotions. The syntactic representation of the emotive code is carried out through the opposition of extended segments of text, in which the emotions of the hero and the feelings of other people are characterized, as well as the perception of the external and internal world by the character, which objectifies the emotive evaluativeness characteristic of Russian linguoculture. The reconstruction of the inner world of characters and their emotionality is possible on the basis of decoding the implicitly represented emotive code.
