In a backward district like Uttar Dinajpur agriculture is the most important source of economic activity among the people.83% of the total working population of the district were engaged in agriculture.But the agricultural production are not uniform all over the district rather it varies from block to block. The regional topography is generally flat with a gentle southerly slope. Uttar dinajpur is bestowed with a very fertile soil. The soil is very rich in nature due to the alluvial deposition which helps to grow agricultural crops. Here we simply attempt to classify the 9 blocks of Uttar Dinajpur district into 3 productivity zones by using Kendalls Ranking Co-efficient method. Besides this,block wise impact of irrigation and possible measures are also discussed.
