Abstract Background: The mental foramen (MF) is a small foramen located in the body of the mandible bone in the anterolateral aspect. The mental nerve and vessels are transmitted by it, and it is localized almost halfway within the mandibular upper and lower borders. A comprehensive understanding of MF anatomy is essential for both dental practices and surgical interventions involving that region. Methodology: Regardless of age or gender, 100 dry adult human mandibles from North Indian Institutes were used in our investigation. Inspection by visual means was employed to study MF number and accessory MF (AMF) if present. Tebo and Telford classification has been employed to locate the MF. The MF’s size and shape are measured by a precision digital caliper. The data analysis was conducted using SPSS software version 29- IBM Corp., Armonk, N.Y., USA, which was utilized to determine the mean, incidence, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum. Results: The MF location is usually between the inferior and alveolar margins in most mandibles, at the level of the root of the second premolar tooth. Most of the MF had an oval shape. Four mandibles had AMF on the right side, whereas five mandibles had AMF on the left side. Conclusion: Research can provide valuable novel addition to the reservoir of knowledge regarding the quantity, positioning, dimensions, and form of MF and AMF. This information could aid neurosurgeons, dentists, anaesthetists, and surgeons in performing effective surgical protocols.
