The work is dedicated to the question of the functioning of dysphemisms – coarse words – as markers of locality in English journalistic texts. The aim of the research is to identify markers of locality in English-language journalistic texts, which may include dysphemisms. Dysphemisms are analyzed alongside other markers of locality, which proves their influence on the formation of the text’s locality not separately, but together with other lexemes. The work is novel in that it is the first one to identify dysphemisms as one of the tools for forming locality. In addition, the degree of their influence on the overall perception of the text is determined. As a result of the research, a new function of dysphemisms was established – their ability to serve as indicators of locality in journalistic texts in English. Authors repeatedly use dysphemisms as markers of locality in the title and in the text of English-language articles.
