Abstract

This article examines the economic development of Bulgaria and Serbia through the lens of cross-border cooperation and the process of European integration. A comparative analysis is conducted using secondary data from national and European institutions to explore macroeconomic trends, regional disparities, and the impact of European Union programs, including Interreg IPA CBC and pre-accession funds. The findings indicate that bilateral cooperation and the countries' engagement with the EU exert a significant positive influence, particularly on peripheral and economically lagging regions. The Bulgarian experience is also considered as a potential model for institutional and administrative convergence with EU standards.
