The dominant modern articulation of trauma in practical philosophy and philosophical practice, and in the various helping professions, mainly portrays trauma as a primarily inhibitory experience, with an inherent capacity to compromise one?s quality of life. This paper questions such a culture and interpretation of trauma. The author points out the functional role of trauma in the development of a healthy sociality and the necessity of trauma, especially microtrauma, for any significant personal change. The paper suggests ways in which trauma may play a role in the practical application of modal logic-based philosophical counseling, and highlights the logical status of trauma in the very conceptualization of socialization and sociality in general.
