Abstract The rapid growth of the video game industry has generated demand for skilled game developers and increased interest in game development education. While many universities now offer game development courses, there is a lack of research on teaching these skills at the secondary school level. This paper presents a case study of designing and implementing a game development course for secondary school students (grades 10-12) in Ukraine. The course was offered as an elective within the informatics curriculum, with the goal of introducing students to basic game development concepts and tools. Course content focused on developing 2D games using the Unity engine, covering topics such as game objects, scripting, physics, user interface, and animation. Evaluation based on student projects, surveys, and teacher observations indicated high levels of engagement and skill development. Challenges included managing the project scope and providing adequate technical support. Recommendations for course improvement and wider adoption are discussed. The study demonstrates the feasibility and value of teaching game development at the secondary level to prepare students for further education and careers in this growing field.
