The main purpose of the study is to identify the reasons for the increasing differentiation of regions in terms of socio-economic development as a threat to the economic security of the regions. The goal was achieved based on the consistent solution of three tasks, including the collection and processing of statistical information on the level of socio-economic development of the regions, the formation of a system of indicators of economic security and the development of recommendations to reduce the level of regional differentiation. The indicative approach of Glazyev S.Yu. is used as the basic model. The applied research methods are also based on the recommendations of well-known researchers such as V. Kristaller, who contributed to the development of the theory of central locations, on the basis of which it was suggested that the placement of activities in the field of economic formation and development of the region is mainly due to the conditions of supply and demand. Lesh A. is the author of the theory of economic space, based on the concept of the «cone of demand». Granberg A.G., founder of the Russian school of spatial interdisciplinary research, whose methodology has made a huge contribution to the development of territorial development projects. Senchagov V.K. laid the foundation for an approach to the formation of indicators that determine the stable socio-economic development of regions. All indicators of socio-economic indicators for assessing the subjects of the Russian Federation were divided into twenty subgroups: population; labor; standard of living; education; culture, recreation, tourism; land resources and environmental protection; gross regional product; fixed assets; investments; organizations; industrial production; agriculture; trade and services; transport; information and communication technologies; science and innovation; finance; prices and tariffs. To obtain an average assessment of the level of economic security by region, a statistical comparison was carried out by the size of the integral coefficient of economic indicators, by the integral social indicator and the integral indicator of economic security in general. The practical effectiveness of the study lies in the possibility of applying the results obtained to develop recommendations for reducing the level of differentiation between regions.
