Abstract Recreation is forcing itself more deeply into the forestry program. In Europe, from earliest times, it was the major forest use. To what extent recreation will control forest plans will depend on the broadness of the vision of foresters of today and tomorrow. The author points out some of the problems and conflicts this growing forest use thrusts upon the forest manager.
