In April 2018, a trial excavation was conducted at Na h al Avnon fortress in Yero h am (Permit No. A-8281; map ref. 194155/544702; Fig. 1) prior to development of an open public space and a new promenade for the town of Yero h am. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by the Yero h am Economic Development Corporation, was directed by S. Ganor (field photography) and S. Weiss, with the assistance of Y. Alamor (administration), E. Aladjem (surveying, GIS, aerial photography), A. Azoulay (plans), C. Hersch (pottery drawing), M. Shemer (flints), N. Marom (archaeozoology), D. Gazit (studio photography), D. Eisenberg-Degen (scientific guidance), Y. Haimi (Southern Negev District Archaeologist), O. Aflalo (educational program) and V. Lifshitz and F. Kobrin from the IAA Southern Region, as well as volunteers, students from the city’s schools, Midreshet Beya h ad educational counselors, and other volunteers from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
