The Relationship Between Student Achievement Teachers' Self-motivation for Professional Development

The Sri Lankan education system has steadily improved in recent years due to several proposals and reforms, but there remain many significant issues that need to be addressed. Numerous studies in this field have shown that an important challenge is the low quality of output in comparison to the inputs provided by the educational system. Motivation for professional development benefits everyone involved and extends beyond the job function, duties, and obligations that a person performs. Therefore, there is a current requirement to analyze how the experiences of the numerous professional development programs participated by teachers could be effectively utilized. Effective use of professional development experiences has been identified in the research literature under three main areas. In this study, five principals were chosen using the stratified random selection approach, while 200 teachers and 75 pupils from Type 2, 1AB, and 1C schools in Gampaha District, Minuwangoda Education Zone, Sri Lanka, were chosen using the multistage random sample method. Also, the researcher has been careful to maintain this research, research ethics to be safe. Pilot tests were conducted to validate the use of a structured questionnaire approach with 5-Likert and interview techniques as the primary sources of data gathering. Thematic analysis was used to examine the qualitative data, while descriptive statistical methods were used to study the quantitative data. Female teachers represented the majority of responders (84.9%), and 88 percent of them had either gained professional experience before or after entering the teaching field. Information provided by teachers, principals, and students regarding teachers' effective use of professional development experiences did not identify any effective practice. However, it was revealed that there are various reasons for this. Thus, it is necessary to set up a system through which the government can intervene and offer ongoing professional development for teachers.
