The article considers the role of the organization’s intellectual resource as a key factor for sustainable development in a dynamic market. The differences between the concepts of competence and competence, their role in personnel management and education, as well as the relationship of professional thinking to effective activity are analyzed. The complexity and insufficient knowledge of the concept of professional thinking in comparison with formalized competences and competence maps is emphasized, the holistic understanding of professional thinking and its management in the organization remains incomplete. The article offers directions for further research on the system management of professional thinking as an element of intellectual resource, important to lead competitors and adapt to changing market conditions.
