Design in Industry as a Sustainability Challenge: an account of a pedagogical action in higher education

This article reports on a pedagogical partnership between the design course at the Federal University of Pernambuco, the Armazém da Criatividade - Porto Digital and the Mega Plast company in the city of Caruaru - Pernambuco. The aim was to develop design solutions for the local industry aimed at sustainability based on EDD (Emotionally Durable Design). The design method was adapted from that proposed by the O Imaginário Design Laboratory at the Federal University of Pernambuco, which bases project development on the phases of research, analysis and synthesis. As a result, the academic projects were presented in the Sustainability Challenges competition, promoting the strengthening of design actions in the region.
