I had never heard of Scully before, but he would change my life, as he did the lives of so many. Scully's lectures were conducted in semidarkness; he said he wanted students to experience the images of the buildings, not just write down their dates. He used a 10-foot bamboo pointer, which he whacked against the projection screen as the rapid-fire sequence of slides flashed before us.
