Analysis of Factors Affecting the Degree of Harm after Fall Incidents in the Eldery in General Hospitals

The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting the degree of harm after falls for the elderly aged 60 or older in general hospitals and to provide basic data for the development of intervention programs to prevent fall incidents. The study method analyzed a total of 3,459 fall incidents using patient safety reporting data, and conduct descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation analysis and binary logistic regression analysis using the SPSS 26.0 program. The study results showed the factors that affecting moderate to severe injuries after a fall incidents were woman in gender(odds ratio=1.51, 95% CI: 1.24-1.84, p<.001), age group of 80years or older(odds ratio=1.51, 95% CI: 1.19-1.93, p=.001), psychiatry(odds ratio=2.31, 95% CI: 1.28-4.17, p=.005), medical institutions with 500beds or more(odds ratio=2.04, 95% CI: 1.34-3.13, p=.001), and medical institutions with 200 or more beds and less than 500beds(odds ratio=1.73, 95% CI: 1.13-2.64, p=.011). Based on this study results, there is a need for medical institutions to provide periodic fall prevention education to patients and staff, identify risk factors for falls, and continuously improve the environment.
