Abstract This study was conducted in the dry marsh of Al-Laqta, located within the administrative boundaries of Al-Muthanna Governorate, it lies between longitudes 45°24’30 and 45°36’30 east, and latitudes 31°21’0 and 31°27’0 north, with a total area estimated at 20,860 ha −1 . The study used digital indices and their relationship to some of the chemical properties of the soils in the study area, by using remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques. The satellite image from the Landsat-8 satellite, with twelve spectral bands. Necessary corrections were made, and a soil unit map was prepared. The results of this study indicated a negative correlation among the NDSI, NDVI, and SAVI. The results also showed a correlation among the indices and some soil properties. The NDSI was associated with NDVI showed a negative relationship between ECe and pH, a correlation coefficient of 0.667 for ECe and 0.667 for pH. A positive relationship with O.M. and CaCO 3 . A power correlation coefficient of 0.817 for O.M. and 0.855 for CaCO 3 . The correlation between the SAVI index and the NDVI index showed a negative relationship. A power correlation coefficient of 0.691 for ECe, 0.859 for O.M., and 0.753 for CaCO 3 , except for pH, the relationship was positive, with a power correlation coefficient of 0.850. The correlation between the NDSI index and the NDVI index indicated a positive relationship with O.M., a correlation coefficient of 0.885 and pH, with a correlation coefficient of 0.752, and with CaCO 3 , with a correlation coefficient of 0.789.
