Relations between Russia and China are continuously developing, as well as new prospects are constantly opening up. Therefore, the need for competent specialists who know Chinese is still growing and will not decrease in the coming years. The phonetic section of the Chinese language is quite difficult; therefore it requires special attention when studying it. The level of phonetic knowledge depends on the degree of understanding of what is heard and said when communicating with native Chinese speakers. And this affects the effectiveness of the translator during the assistance for business meetings, which are so important nowadays for the interaction of the two countries with each other. This article discusses the main reasons for the need to teach Chinese phonetics at the initial stage of higher education in linguistic specialties. It also analyzes the main mistakes in the teaching process that are worth paying attention to and suggests methods to solve them.
