Throughout the history of education, one of the most important questions has been whether we can detect whether students are cheating on exams or whether we are really assessing their knowledge. One way to solve this dilemma is to adopt an approach where professors spend more time helping students to learn rather than finding out whether students are cheating on exams. It should also be remembered that the exam is a time to learn, not just a time to check what has been learnt. Based on these approaches, an analysis of the use of generative AI applications and tools in engineering education was carried out on the subject of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC). Students are allowed to use generative AI applications and tools to solve tasks in exams and colloquia. Some of the results of using generative AI applications and tools are presented in this paper.
