Research objective: The aim of this atricle is to ilustrate how individuals with specific needs function in life, examining potential adaptations to common-use devices and underscoring the significance of universal design. Methodology: Research methods employed include literature review and analysis of an original research. Main conclusions: Universal design combats disability discrimination by providing equal access to elements, objects, and equipment. Device adaptations enhance daily functionality for individuals with disabilities, particularly in automotive transportation, adaptive furniture, smart home environments, and rehabilitative and healthcare devices. These adaptations alleviate stress points, improve independence, quality of life, and mobility. Implementing universal design upholds human rights and mitigates discrimination, as per the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, which prohibits unjustified differentiation based on gender, race, ethnic origin, nationality, religion, worldview, and disability. Application of the study: Through the implementation of device adaptations and universal design, it becomes possible to counteract discrimination based on disability. The use of supportive elements enables individuals with specific needs to utilize objects and devices effectively. Universal design ensures equal opportunities for all people, where everyone has equal access and the ability to use all elements of objects. Originality/Novelty of the study: The presented results provide insights into device adaptations for individuals with disabilities and universal design. It delves into why these adaptations are carried out for the broadest spectrum of people and why percentiles are utilized for this purpose. The work offers information regarding the complexity of the issue and outlines efforts to counteract discrimination based on disability and specific needs.
