Abstract Abstract Over the past several years, Chinese mainland has implemented the policy of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation" and promoted "innovative and entrepreneurial education". Entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities has become a hot research topic, and is accompanied by social and economic development. In the field of engineering education, related researches are good at experience summarization or case introduction, but weak in discussion and research on the micro issues such as culture and value of entrepreneurship education. In addition, few related researches deeply explore the influence of cultures on engineering entrepreneurial education within colleges and universities. Thus, engineering entrepreneurial education within colleges and universities needs to be examined from philosophical, historical and cultural perspective. This study first systematically sorts out the current research status of engineering entrepreneurial education within colleges and universities in Chinese mainland; secondly, uses historical analysis method and case study method to analyze the cultural origins of engineering entrepreneurial education within colleges and universities; thirdly, explores the influence of cultures on engineering entrepreneurial education within colleges and universities; fourthly, uses philosophical speculation method to analyze the cultural implications of engineering entrepreneurial education within colleges and universities based on a cultural perspective; finally, puts forward recommendations on the development of engineering entrepreneurial education within colleges and universities, especially in the cultural ecology of Chinese mainland. This research preliminarily shows that the practice of engineering entrepreneurial education within colleges and universities in Chinese mainland urgently seeks rational reflection on the genes inheritance of traditional culture, the values excavation of traditional business culture, the value recognition of entrepreneurial education, and functions exertion of modern university culture, in order to form the Chinese model of engineering entrepreneurial education.
