abstract: This essay narrates the history of Spiritus: A Journal of Christian Spirituality through its first twenty-five years of publication. It documents the distinct way of thinking that has informed and shaped both the journal and its predecessor, the Christian Spirituality Bulletin . This way of thinking encompasses assumptions about the nature and scope of Christian spirituality, how it ought to be examined and explored, and ultimately why such a scholarly endeavor matters. In the process, the essay describes some of Spiritus ’s important contributions to the larger emerging field of Christian spirituality studies.
