The conference ‘Europe Between Past and Future’ was held at the University of Trieste on March 20th, 2025, as part of the ‘Colloquium Politicum’ series organised by Professor Giuliana Parotto, Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Trieste. The conference aimed to bring together distinguished scholars with the purpose of discussing Europe’s cultural, economic, and political roots, in the belief that a better understanding of Europe’s past can help us adequately comprehend the challenges it has faced and will continue to face in the foreseeable future. The scholars who partook in the conference shed light on central issues such as the nature of the European identity, the inherent relationship between neoliberalism and communism, as well as the role of modernity and authoritarianism vis-à-vis political and social structures.
