Pantoea agglomerans is a bacterium, which is associated with plants, and is not a known infectious agent in humans. However, it may be the causative organism causing opportunistic human infections due to wound infection with plant material in persons working in agriculture or as a hospital-acquired infection, especially in immunocompromised individuals. However, the literature records human infection due to administration of contaminated intravenous solutions, contamination of indwelling intravenous catheters. Septic shock, respiratory failure, and death have also been reported particularly in paediatric age group.
