An 89-year-old female diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis who presented with severe tenderness and edema was treated with a combination of Western medicine and Korean medicine, including herbal medicine (Dangguihwalhyul-tang), acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping therapy. The patient underwent a 55-day course of treatment during hospitalization, and effects were evaluated using the verbal NRS, leg circumference, and blood tests. After 55 days of treatment, edema and tenderness of the affected leg improved. In addition, follow-up ultrasound showed persistence of the therapeutic effect. This case suggests that Korean medicine may have contributed to symptomatic improvement in a patient with deep vein thrombosis, particularly when conventional antithrombotic treatments are insufficient.
