This slide deck was used to support an NFDI4Microbiota Coffee Talk entitled “Access Control, Data Protection and Security in Digital Microbiology” (15 December 2025, 14:30–15:30). The talk was aimed at wet-lab and bioinformatics microbiologists who want to improve how they handle, share, and secure research data, as well as data stewards and NFDI4Microbiota ambassadors seeking practical examples of policy implementation and secure data workflows. The presentation introduces key measures for secure data handling, discusses tools and approaches for access control, and highlights alternative research practices that enable responsible and open data sharing.
