Abstract: Retrofitting is a technique that enhances the seismic performance of concrete columns byapplying external prestressing and additional reinforcement to improve their strength and deformabilityagainst ground motion and seismic activity. This process, which includes methods such as jacketing, is crucialfor upgrading older structures to meet modern seismic standards. Jacketing involves encasing existingcolumns with concrete and reinforcement to restore or increase their load-bearing capacity and protect themfrom further deterioration. This method is particularly useful for repairing damaged columns and can also beapplied to vertical surfaces and other structural elements. By enhancing structural capacities such asstrength, stiffness, and stability, retrofitting helps buildings withstand future earthquakes. The application ofretrofitting techniques, including concrete and steel jacketing, has been studied in the context of a G+2 storyRC framed residential building in ZONE IV, where these methods significantly improved the performance offailed columns.
