Abstract The author is Chairman of the Board, and former longtime CEO, of Barry‐Wehmiller, “a 3. 6+ Billion company made up of more than 150 acquisitions, a global platform of industrial and packaging automation, professional services and life sciences technology. ” He asserts that “the startling truth, supported by research, is that your leader has a greater impact on your health than your doctor, therapist, or even your partner. ” For this assertion, he points to “the research of Dr. L. Casey Chosewood, Past Director of the Office for Total Worker Health at the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/CDC's National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. ” The author relates that “beginning in the late 1990s, a series of realizations led me away from traditional management practices to Truly Human Leadership —a people‐centric approach where team members feel valued, cared for and integral to the company's purpose. At Barry‐Wehmiller, we have a unique measure of success: by the way we touch the lives of people. ” He further believes that “when we lead with genuine care, we not only improve individual well‐being—we also transform the culture of our organizations. ”
