Statement of the problem. The existing normative documents regulating the terms of elimination of roadway defects have been analyzed. The imperfection of normative-legal base in the issue of elimination of cracking on the roadway of motorways is noted. Results. It was found that the accumulation of damage requiring roadway repair and maintenance works occurs before the longitudinal flatness index IRI reaches the maximum permissible values. Conclusions. The limits of change of longitudinal flatness index for characteristic defects of road surface with reliability of 90 % are substantiated.
