On 28 July 2023, Stell Environmental Enterprises, Inc. was contracted to perform a Class III cultural resources inventory for 1,200 acres of the Davis Airfield, located on lands managed by the United States Department of Defense, United States Air Force Academy. Contracted activities were completed for three polygonal parcels to identify and record precontact and historical properties. The work was completed under the Argonne subcontract agreement 3F-60205, Contract Number: DE-AC02-06CH11357. The inventory was conducted from 3 October to 9 October 2024, covering a total of 1,066.5 acres. Approximately 133.5 acres were excluded due to existing infrastructure development related to Davis Airfield. As a result of this inventory, 14 newly identified archaeological resources were recorded, including six archaeological sites and eight isolated finds. In addition, 14 previously recorded archaeological sites and 10 isolated finds were revisited. In accordance with 36 Code of Federal Regulations 60.4, all cultural resources are recommended to the United States Air Force Academy as not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places, except Site 5EP.1003.1, which is recommended as a contributing segment to the overall resource that is officially NRHP-eligible.
