Introduction: An unprecedented wave of unusually severe Group A streptococcal cases started to become apparent in early 2023. Initial cases included severe necrotising fasciitis, septicaemia with toxic shock syndrome with features of multiorgan failure and dramatic progression to death within 3–24 hours. In this presentation, we illustrate laboratory data analysis for west, regional and rural New South Wales for a full range of diagnostic samples positive for the organism, including routine bacteriology and whole genome sequencing.
