Abstract: Although collegiate singers show interest in keeping their voices healthy, many do not know how specific agents can affect their vocal health. This IRB-approved study surveyed collegiate singers ( N = 193) to discover their knowledge of vocal hygiene practices and hydration habits. Results reveal that participants practice some positive hydration habits, do not practice some positive hydration habits, and participate in some practices that dry out the voice. Additionally, singers have a mix of accurate and inaccurate perceptions of vocal hygiene practices. Implications include staying current with research on vocal hygiene and clarifying perceptions of agents on the voice.
