This study explores the factors affecting household food waste reduction in Palestine, using the appraisal theory. Responses gathered using a quantitative questionnaire among 313 consumers were used to test the research hypotheses. The results reveal a positive correlation between waste reduction and food storage practices, higher perceived food value is linked to reduced waste, while unfavorable food preferences, and unfavorable eating habits correlate negatively with waste reduction. Religiosity moderates these relationships, strengthening their impact. Overall, this research contributes valuable insights to the limited literature on Palestinian food waste, introducing a novel application of appraisal theory.
